The venue for the reception is the Whitworth Hall, the University of Manchester’s ceremonial hall, built in neo-gothic style between 1898 and 1902 to commemorate the Manchester engineer Joseph Whitworth. The hall is part of the complex of university buildings designed by Alfred Waterhouse, one of Britain’s best-known architects, who also designed Manchester Town Hall and the Natural History Museum in London.
